made in the usa.jpg

Take Notice Trend #1: BUY U.S.A. MADE!

Did you know?

Our Carpeting is made right here in the U.S.A.!

That is probably why carpeting is still the #1 choice for flooring!

Our Tarkett Permastone Line is made in Florence, Alabama

(read more about it here)

Take Notice Trend #2: Smooth is classic but 2019 is all about TEXTURE!!

From wire brushed, distressed and hand-scraped…..texture is where it is at!

Beautiful Tarkett Laminate in a distressed or hand-scraped look is definitely the trend for this year or maybe you’re looking for hardwood?

Well, we have you covered!

Check out Anderson Hardwood’s Colonial Manor – beautiful and durable.

Take Notice Trend #3 – Coastal Decor!

One color that is taking 2019 in waves is green!

From Aegean Teal to Fort Pierce Green…..These soft coastal colors can add a splash!

Keep it simple! From a simple throw blanket to some soft green pillows….the coastal trend is an easy way to update any space!

Take Notice Trend #4 – Herringbone!

LVT reigned supreme in 2018 and while this excellent product is still going strong in 2019….the idea of laying has been tweaked a bit!

And if vinyl flooring is more your style – especially since it is so easy to clean and incredibly affordable – IVC has some amazing Herringbone Styles to choose from!

Oooo….how about an updated back splash in a beautiful Herringbone Pattern?

Tips & ideas for creating a romantic Bedroom!

Bedrooms are a sacred space! A place to hide away, rest and recharge in the midst of busy lives. Yet, often creating that cozy or romantic retreat is difficult!

We have created a list of 5 tips and ideas to help you create that romantic bedroom you have always wanted!

BHG paint

Tip #1 – Start simple: PAINT!

Beautiful soft greys are popular this season and there is a perfectly good reason why!

These soft grays create an elegant, light and airy feel that makes one feel as if relaxation is simply a nap away!

Riga+Panel+Bed

Tip #2 – Find that something you LOVE!

For me, I love this bed by Birch Lane. There is something about the classic silhouette that I adore!

Find that one piece you love – end tables, lamps, bed frame or art work and use what you love about that piece to inspire you!

Tip #3 – Create balance and structure.

99 architectureDon’t just slam the bed into a corner, balance the space out by placing the bed in the middle with matching end tables on each side with a pair of lamps. This basic rule creates a balanced space ready for the finishing touches!

Worried about your cozy bedroom.

Even in small bedroom spaces…..creative ideas for side tables can be used!best of diy ideas.com

Tip #4

Add unique touches that mirror your own soul!

From chunky blankets in a deep charcoal grey, to soft delicate curtains that blow gently in the breeze…..or maybe special sconces you make yourself! In decorating a romantic space, it is most important that the unique touches reflect you!

I love the idea of using antique door handles as curtain tie backs…..adds a touch of whimsy to the room!

Tip #5 – Once all your hard work is done….remember to sit back and enjoy your romantic Bedroom!

Refresh, recharge and enjoy!

Before you DIY…..Think of us!

SetWidth862-DIY-Disasters-Launch

Looking to start a home project this spring? Thinking of maybe doing it yourself?  While channeling your inner JoAnna & Chips Gaines could be fun, it also could cost you a lot more than you expect.

Here are a few tips to think about before you decide to DIY or call a professional!

Tip #1: How much is that Weekend Warrior Project really going to cost you once you figure in the time and labor?

Are you looking at switching out some old faucets or painting a laundry room? Maybe you are looking to update your back splash with some beautiful new glass tile? These are all project perfect for the weekend DIY’er. A few trips to the hardware store, a few hours of hard work yield amazing results!

diy-disaster

But if you are looking to install/refinishing a hardwood flooring? Think about all of those extra’s: do you have a power sanders? Do you have a nail gun? Did you remember to add 10-15% overage due to defects in the wood? What about time? A project you promised your wife would only take three days is stretching into day five. Kids are walking all over the new wood, the poor cat doesn’t know what to think of all of the noise and mess…That is why jobs like these go a lot more smoothly when done by professionals. They have already invested in the quality tools needed to get the job done efficiently! They know how to estimate the proper amount needed to get the job done and they will do it as quickly and effectively as possibly!

Tip #2: Is this really something you can do?

Disasters

“Sometimes there’s overconfidence. Dean Bennett, president of a Colorado-based design and construction firm, has seen many instances in which homeowners thought they knew everything, but fell short. Some things are just not as easy as you might think, he says. Say the idea is moving a wall to create some extra bathroom space. This could involve moving the plumbing in the basement, adding new floor framing, rerouting electrical wires, removing and replacing trim on the wall, matching the wall texture to the original, and painting.”*

A good rule of thumb is if it needs permits or requires inspection by licensed professional…..Don’t do it yourself. It is going to save you a lot of time and money if you simply have it done right the first time!

Tip #3: Are you really going to save much if you DIY?

After obtaining the correct permits, renting or buying the necessary tools…..are you really saving as much money as you thought? Before you DIY, call around and see about some estimates. Chances are you will be surprised at how little your savings would be if you did it yourself and the extra money spent is worth the time, effort and lack of stress!

So if you are looking to some flooring DIY, want to make sure you are saving time and money…..give us a call here at THE CARPET HOUSE, INC! As always we offer free measure’s and no-obligation estimates! Call us today at (815) 772-8846.

Next is a fantastic bathroom DIY before and after project!

Persnickety Plates is an adorable blog.

Melissa shows the redo of various projects done. Like us here at the Carpet House, she loves a good before and after post! This post of her bathroom redo lives up to high standards!

This post highlights the redo of her bathroom. As she says it is not to big but not small by any accounts….so finding the right color choices was important.

What we liked best about this post is her choice of paint and floor tile! Grey is the new trend and her photos highlight how beautiful and calm the right color grey can be.

Interested in learning more about the 2016 Color Trends…..we have a post about that!

Our next blog that has a pretty fantastic DIY Redo is The Handmade Home. For Ashley and her husband Jmnin, it all started with a bit of mold in the bathroom.

The bathroom went from choppy and dated to open and airy. The closed in shower was opened up with glass doors and the dated tan tile was transformed with beautiful white wall tiles and a beautiful mosaic tile floor.

This Redo made our list because of the detail included in the blog/article. Pictures show just how damaging one leak can be and how in-depth a full bathroom remodel can get.
